Crypto Art arrives at the Museo della Permanente in Milan

by Giulia De Sanctis

DART | Dynamic Art Museum presents, at the Museo della Permanente in Milan, 2121, the first museum exhibition dedicated to Crypto Art in Italy. The aim of the exhibition project is to investigate, through the artists’ works, the Today looking at the future through works that, in a short and accelerated span of time, propose and create new ideas for reflection on how a work should be conceived, carried out, used and transmitted to be declared as such. 2121 is curated by DART in collaboration with Wrong Theory, the first real-life production in the world of NFT (Non-Fungible Token) born from the cooperation between Alessandro Brunello, Alan Tonetti and Serena Tabacchi. The exhibition brings together artworks from about 70 artists, main exponents of the artistic movement of Crypto Art made of both emerging, blue chips - permanently established NFT artists - and the OG - acronym for Old Guy used to identify the artists who first worked in the field of NFTs -.

With the advent of NFTs, of which technological experimentation began around 2013, many artists from 2018 have ventured into experimenting with new forms of art, creating digital works thanks to the decentralized and permanent certification system of the Blockchain: it provides for the creation of chains of blocks rich in coded information, such as the history of a work of art, from its creation to its inclusion in collections and so on. The peculiarity of this technology is that any information related to the work of the NFT remains unchanged over time and is visible to everyone, allowing you to verify the origin and its historical route.

The exhibition is spread over the two rooms of the ground floor of the Museo della Permanente and is a free path, giving life to a mode of fruition based on the interaction between human being and digital world, that leaves the visitors free to create their own experiential path between the works. The equipment used is the same for all to democratize the exhibition, and there are QR codes that link to the platform where you can buy the work for sale independently; a fundamental feature of Crypto Art is the same artists often dedicate themselves to collecting NFT works by other artists, creating networks of global connections driven by a desire for continuous research, experimentation and sharing in the era of the remote.

DART 2121 takes place at the Museo della Permanente in Via Filippo Turati 34 in Milan until 6th February 2022 from Monday to Friday 10:00-19:00, while weekend time is 11:00-19:00. The entrance ticket is 10 euros, while the discounted price is 6 euros. For more information visit the website www.dartmilano.com
