Mario Testino

Mario Testino

Mario Testino is a contemporary Peruvian fashion photographer and art collector. Characterized by an intimate engagement with his models, his work captures the luxury and decadence of the contemporary fashion industry. “I usually try to make my images look like they just exist, like no effort was put into it,” he said of his process.

Born on October 30, 1954 in Lima, Peru, after dropping his education in economics, he went on to study photography with John Vickers and Paul Nugent in London. His works have appeared in magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ, as well as advertising campaigns for Gucci, Versace, and Chanel.

Among the many celebrities Testino has photographed, his most famous images remain those taken of Princess Diana in 1997, the year of her death. In 2015, TASCHEN published an extensive catalog of his portraits of men, titled Sir.
